Hai, nama saya Alex dan saya seorang insinyur yang bekerja dalam Dewan Riset NRGLab. Saya telah bekerja dengan teknologi computer CAD-CAM selama 15 tahun untuk membantu para insinyur lain mencapai spesifikasi yang tepat dan mendetail dari rancangan-rancangan mereka.      Sewaktu bekerja dengan model-model komputer, orang kerap menggunakan data tafsiran untuk memprediksi tren masa depan dan kecendengurang-kecenderungannya.  Seharusnya dunia pun dilihat dengan cara demikian. Dengan menganalisis informasi tentang masa kini, kita akan mampu membuat penyesuaian-penyesuaian yang berakar dari tradisi praindustri dan mengoptimalkan masa depan kita. Tidak melarikan diri dari kenyataan tidak mengenakkan yang saat ini kita hadapi: secara perlahan dunia menjadi sekarat. Populasi tumbuh terlalu cepat. Konsumsi BBM meningkat di luar kendali. Sudah waktunya kita menerapkan apa yang kita ketahui tentang lingkungan kita untuk mencegah sebuah akhir tidak menyenangkan yang tak bisa dihindari – seperti yang terlihat saat ini.

            Solusinya adalah energi terbarukan. Sumber-sumber energi terbarukan mendemokrasikan energi dan memungkinkan informasi, stabilitas, dan perdamaian untuk berkembang. Berbagai negara diseluruh penjuru dunia saat ini diadu melawan satu sama lainnya dalam upaya untuk mengendalikan cadangan sumber daya alam yang terbatas. Minyak bumi, baru bara, gas alam. Menghapus insentif dan kita bisa melihat akhir sebuah perang.

            Ketergantungan kita terhadap minyak dan gas saat ini memang baik untuk tahun 1900an. Namun minyak sudah mulai habis sekarang, dan  beberapa kendaraan hibrida di jalanan tidak akan bisa mengimbangi emisi karbon yang terus dipompakan ke atmosfer kita. Kerusakan sudah terjadi. Untungnya, perubahan akan segera datang.

            Namun, perubahan besar membutuhkan cara berpikir yang terbuka. Pertama, kita harus bisa membayangkan dunia tanpa SPBU atau PLT Batu Bara sebagai dunia yang nyata.  Kita membutuhkan teknologi baru yang bisa langsung disambungkan ke jaringan listrik, dan memberikan bantuan langsung bagi jutaan rumah tangga yang berjuang untuk kebutuhan hidup mereka. Sebaiknya kita bersama-sama mengambil sikap menentang infrastruktur energi yang sudah ada.  Energi, sama seperti udara yang kita hirup, tidak seharusnya diperlakukan seperti sebuah komoditas yang diberi label harga. Sebaliknya, harus disikapi sebagai sebuah kesempatan bagi orang-orang untuk belajar, berkomunikasi, dan merasa sedikit lebih aman di malam hari. Energi adalah power. Dan di NRGLab, tujuan kami adalah memberikan power itu kembali ke rakyat.

Masih Percayakah Kita kepada Pemerintah?

Boleh dibilang hampir setiap malam, siaran berita selalu dibanjiri dengan berita utama yang berkaitan dengan perilaku pemerintahan yang tidak pada tempatnya.  Coba saja, pilih sebuah negara - negara mana pun.

Amerika Serikat, "tanah kebebasan" itu, diam-diam memata-matai warga negaranya sendiri. Mendengarkan percakapan telepon pribadi mereka.  Membaca surel mereka. Dan semua itu 100% legal! (tapi secara konstitusi atau moral - pastinya bertentangan)

Di Turki, polisi terpaksa menembakkan meriam air bertekanan tinggi ke kerumunan massa kerusuhan yang berjumlah sekitar  15.000 orang loyalis Partai AK. Bayangkan berapa banyak orang yang bakal bersorak dan melambaikan bendera Turki di TPS ketika mereka mengadakan pilkada di bulan Maret mendatang.

Korea Utara menuntut pembubaran intervensi PBB di Korea Selatan. Dengan menuduh  bahwa AS menggunakan wilayah Korea Selatan sebagai persiapan strategis untuk perang melawan Korea Utara, Duta Besar Sin Son Ho memperingatkan bahwa perang bisa berkobar "setiap saat."  Dan yang dimaksud bukan Perang Korea lainnya. Kita bicara Perang Dunia III. Bencana nuklir. Seperti yang kita tahu bakal menjadi akhir kehidupan.

Para pemimpin negara-negara asing tidak dapat bertatap muka secara langsung lagi, karena takut dimata-matai oleh pesawat pengintai tak berawak rahasia yang seharusnya menjadi sekutu mereka. Apa yang dilakukan oleh pesawat pengintai tak berawak itu? Tentu saja memata-matai Anda. Bahkan Presiden Barack Obama, seorang liberal, telah menggunakan serangan pesawat pengintai tak berawak untuk menciduk tersangka teroris. Tanpa pengadilan. Tanpa perlu membacakan hak-hak orang yang diciduk tersebut. Parahnya lagi - warga sipil tak berdosa terperangkap di tengah.

Apakah Anda bersedia untuk menerima atau tidak, gagasan tentang "privasi" di era berbasis teknologi ini semakin berkembang dengan cepat. Bagaimana cara terbaik bagi pemerintah untuk menyerang dan menangkap seorang pembunuh? Bagaimana Anda menimbang antara hak-hak individu versus demi kebaikan bersama? Ini adalah beberapa pertanyaan yang sangat sulit, dan keputusan yang diambil bakal tidak mudah pula. Tapi apakah Anda memberikan kepercayaan kepada para pemimpin politik untuk membuat keputusan itu bagi Anda?

Itulah mengapa kami di NRGLab berusaha memberikan kebebasan kepada orang lain. Dengan membuat akses listrik yang universal dan terjangkau,  Anda membuat akses ke informasi yang universal. Ini akan menciptakan pemilih yang mendapat informasi dengan baik. Warga negara yang bertanggung jawab, dapat membatasi kebiasaan konsumsi mereka sendiri dengan generator bebas karbon seperti SH-Box ini. Mereka bisa belajar teknik daur ulang yang lebih baik. Dan yang terpenting, mereka dapat berbagi dengan dunia apa yang telah mereka pelajari. Dan melalui jaringan informasi ini, satu orang bisa membuat sejarah.

Jadi jangan pernah menyerah! Jika Anda berpikir bahwa mematikan satu lampu untuk menghemat sedikit watt itu tidak artinya - pikir lagi! Memimpin dengan memberi contoh. Membantu memastikan lebih baik, masa depan yang lebih hijau bagi kita semua.

Ways to teach kids about saving energy

Let’s face it – the reason we’re all so worried about global warming is that we want to ensure the best possible future for our children. What good is instilling them with values, or leaving behind a strong economy (or in our case, not even that) at the expense of the environment?

If drastic measures aren’t taken soon to curb carbon emissions and energy consumption, our children are going to have a plethora of problems to deal with beyond the debate: is global warming real, or a hoax?

Yes, they’ll be burdened with year-long droughts. Disease. The extinction of entire species of animals.  Civil upheaval. War. They’ll scratch and claw for the few remaining resources: from the last bottle of water to the last drop of oil. Society as we know will cease to exist for our children’s children.

The question is: can we do anything to prevent this future?

Of course we can! But it starts with educating our children so they understand the importance of saving energy wherever they can. No, I’m not talking about nagging them with things like, “Shut the door! What, were you born in a barn?” Rules are good, but it’s more about teaching your children to want to save energy. Not because they’re supposed to, but because they understand that it’s the right thing to do.

Here are a few suggestions on how you can make education fun.

• Involve the entire family! Agree to a regularly scheduled time of electricity-free entertainment starting once or twice a week. You can play a card or board game. Finish a puzzle. Have a catch outside. Ride bikes. Go for a hike. Or see what local activities and events your community has to offer. But before you turn the electricity off, make sure your children understand why you’re doing it. A little sacrifice goes a long way.

• Check out your local library. Have your children take out a book about the environment or energy. The key is to make them want to learn more. Illustrated books are fun, and it’s something you can do together.

• Chores don’t always have to be burdensome, you know. The next time you’re doing laundry, take your children outside with you to hang clothes to dry. Explain to them how it saves money and how the sun is a great, all-natural source of energy.

• Involve your children in designing their own energy-efficient bedrooms. It will give them a chance to be creative and they’ll feel as if you’re given them more responsibility. Use the opportunity to show them how caulking windows and installing motion-sensing lights cut down on electricity.

• No kid really likes showering. Sure, they go along with it – but only because their parents say so. Make it a race to see who can shower in the shortest time (upon completing a smell check to make sure they actually used soap). Saving water is good for the environment and easier on your wallet.

• If you can make a game of it – do it! That’s the rule. Children love games. They love competing. They love being evaluated and timed. Give them a point every time they recognize an energy-wasting habit or appliance. After ten points, reward them with a pizza party and have them invite some of their friends. That way, you can start getting more kids excited about saving energy.

Technology is getting smarter, so why aren’t cities?

Smart phones. Motion-sensing lights. Search engines that remember our history and auto-complete our questions before we can fully pose them. Yes – we live in an age where most of the population demands smart technology to compensate for their own shortcomings. We’ve realized the error of our ways. Our own humanity. So why can’t we apply the same thinking to our over-populated cities?

“The adoption is slower than we would like,” admits Jim Sandelin, senior VP of Schneider Electric, a French-based energy provider. “The technology is there. The platform and the analytics, which tell you how the building and the equipment is performing, have really come on in the last three to four years, and [is getting] better and better all the time.”

You can walk into a McDonald’s and order off of an interactive, touch screen menu. College dormitories are regulated by energy-efficient heating and cooling systems that help reduce costs and consumption. Heck – even the iPad seems like it’s straight out of Star Trek.

So, what’s next?

New data processing centers now allow office buildings, highways, stadiums, and entire city blocks to be run through a singular, integrated network that analyzes power distribution . But while governments have already started to invest in transitioning to these “smart cities,” private building owners remain averse to flipping the bill.

 “A lot of investors don’t want to hear [about green energy],” says John Dawson, regional director of engineering with Lincoln Property, a management company in Dallas. “They don’t want to spend the money. They figure the electric’s pass-through, so why should they pay for it?”

The city of Dallas’s annual energy bills regularly run in the tens of millions of dollars. Since 2003, City Hall, the Dallas Museum of Art, parking structures, and dozens of corporate buildings have been renovated with automated thermostats, motion-sensing lighting, and improved insulation. Their government is predicting $30 million in energy savings over the next two years.

Although American cities have been somewhat reluctant to embrace energy-efficient renovations, in Europe, many countries require them by law. According to Steven Moore, an architectural planning professor at the University of Texas, “Most people are resistant to change they don’t see benefits from immediately. [But] change is coming, and there will be increasing incentives to get institutions and governments to adopt.”

Yet making a building energy-efficient is far from a “one and done” deal. As they age, buildings begin to bleed energy. That’s why they require regular maintenance. Educated operation. They need to constantly adapt in order to survive.

Now the question is: will the human race adapt to global warming and survive? Or will we fail to learn from our mistakes, and fry along with the planet?

Do you still trust the government?

It seems as if every evening, the news leads with another story of government misconduct. Go ahead; pick a country – any country.

The United States, the “land of the free,” is secretly spying on its citizens. Listening to their private phone conversations. Reading their emails. And it’s all 100% legal! (Constitutional or moral – definitely not)

In Turkey, police were forced to fire high-pressure water cannons into a rioting crowd of roughly 15,000 loyalists to the AK Party. Imagine how many will show up cheering and waving Turkish flags at the polling booths when they hold their municipal elections next March.

North Korea is demanding the dissolution of United Nation’s intervention in South Korea. By accusing the U.S. of using the territory as strategic preparation for war against the North, Ambassador Sin Son Ho warns that war can break out “at any moment." And we’re not talking another Korean War, either. We’re talking World War III. Nuclear holocaust. The end of life as we know it.

Foreign leaders can hardly meet in person anymore, for fear of being spied on by their supposed ally’s top secret aerial drone. What are those drones doing in between? Why spying on you, of course! Even liberal U.S. President Barack Obama has used drone strikes to take out suspected terrorists. Without a trial. Without reading anyone their rights. Worst of all – innocent civilians have been caught in the cross fire.

Whether you’re willing to accept it or not, the idea of “privacy” in our technology-driven age is evolving, and fast. What’s OK for the government to invade in order to catch a killer? How do you weigh individual rights versus the overall good? These are some very tough questions, and they’re going to require tough decisions. But do you trust your political leaders to make them for you?

That’s why we at NRGLab are trying to give people some independence. By making access to electricity universal and affordable, you make access to information universal. That creates a well-informed electorate. Responsible citizens, who can curb their consumption habits on their own with a carbon-free generator like the SH-Box. They can learn better recycling techniques. Most importantly, they can share what they learn with the world. And through this web of information, a single person can make history.

So don’t ever give up! If you think turning out that extra light to save a single watt isn’t doing anything – it is! Lead by example. Help ensure a better, greener future for us all.

Sebuah Ide yang Bisa Mengubah Dunia

Sejarah telah berulang kali membuktikan jika sebuah ide dapat mengubah dunia. Percetakan Guttenberg mengubah cara orang bertukar informasi. Mesin uap menginspirasi Revolusi Industri. Manufaktur. Transportasi massal. Manifest destiny (Wikepedia: Manifest Destiny adalah keyakinan kuat orang Amerika pada abad ke-19 bahwa Amerika Serikat ditakdirkan untuk berekspansi melintasi benua. Manifest Destiny memberikan dogma dan seruan bagi pengambilalihan wilayah Amerika Serikat terluas sepanjang sejarah).  Apakah para orator dan yang lainnya melihat inovasi-inovasi ini datang? Apakah mereka siap dengan perubahan budaya yang sangat dramatis seperti itu?

           Ya, bumi memang berubah secara bertahap - tapi perubahan budaya terjadi dalam sekejap mata.  Yang dibutuhkan hanyalah gagasan besar.  Sebuah penemuan khusus. YouTube telah membebaskan seseorang yang salah dituduh. Twitter telah membuat berita malam di televisi menjadi usang.

        Sekarang bayangkan sebuah dunia di mana tagihan bulanan yang Anda bayarkan daring hanyalah sepertiga dari apa yang ada saat ini. Dan dalam dunia yang sama, bayangkan Anda membaca berita di Twitter tentang akhir dari krisis energi. Tidak ada lagi fluktuasi harga BBM yang gila-gilaan.  Pemanasan global melambat untuk pertama kalinya sejak sebelum Revolusi Industri. Bahkan negara dunia ketiga tumbuh berkembang dengan akses ke energi dengan harga terjangkau. Bumi akhirnya tampak menjadi satu- tidak hancur.

Verizon invests in green energy: is your company next?

On Tuesday, Verizon announced its plans to invest $100 million in energy efficient renovations to over a dozen of its facilities. California based developer SunPower Corp. will begin installing solar-panels and fuels cells in their home state as well as New Jersey, followed shortly by four others.

Verizon explained that the investment was made not only out of social conscience, but with their shareholders in mind. “We drive shareholder value, but we're also a good corporate citizen," said James Gowen, the company’s chief sustainability officer.

Consumers are starting to expect companies like Verizon to explore more-efficient energy alternatives, especially those involved in IT and data-cloud storage, fields known for being historically wasteful.

This time last year, Greenpeace ranked the world’s foremost IT companies by their commitment to transitioning to green technology. The environmental advocacy group praised the efforts of search engine moguls Yahoo! and Google, while Amazon and Apple were two of the bigger names adoring the bottom of the list for their continued support of nuclear and coal-burning processes.

Gowen set a goal for Verizon: 15 megawatts of all-natural power by 2014. That would reduce the company’s carbon emissions by roughly 10,000 metric tons and make them completely energy independent. Verizon is expected to see millions in savings, which could be reappropriated towards expanding renovations even further.

Power blackouts? A thing of the past! With their very own source of renewable energy, Verizon will be in control of their own destiny. Say goodbye to that public utility provider and over-paying on monthly bills. Times are tough enough without having to fork over your hard earned dollars to the government. Verizon realized this and decided to make the switch.

Possible agreement between U.S. & China could score historic victory against global warming

Several weeks ago, United States Secretary of State John Kerry met with Chinese officials in Beijing to discuss rising tensions between the U.S. and North Korea. Although progress has been made on that front, it’s a surprising bi-lateral agreement regarding climate change that could ultimately leave the biggest mark on history. 

A long-term relationship between the two superpowers would help ensure economic stability and environmental sustainability for generations to come. The U.S. and China are responsible for 45% of all greenhouse gas emissions. They’ve cited several environmental implications, such as melting ice caps, oceanic acidification, and super-storms as justification for the joint-resolution.   

Kerry’s meeting marks a historic precedent. Global warming has finally shifted from being a political stance for or against, to being a matter of fact. The agreement opens up channels of international communication and cooperation by establishing a Climate Change Working Group. Hopefully, this will inspire the United Nations to get aggressive with climate change and adopt a similar collaborative attitude.

Strategic and Economic Dialogues like this have been helping to bring governments together for the last six years. In the past, however, discussions have centered on trade proposals and market fluctuations. The creation of the Climate Change Working Group forces the U.S. and China, politicians indebted to campaign contributors and greedy corporate executives alike, to face the difficult challenges on which our future depends.

When dealing with different governments in a democratic fashion, or even representatives within a national democracy, real issues tend to get bogged down by bureaucratic nonsense. And since the very real issue of climate change encompasses a variety of other issues like national security, foreign trade, and renewable energy, it’s often difficult for legislation to get passed.

Perhaps most importantly, the agreement between the U.S. and China will target specific philosophical differences between the governments’ understandings of climate change. Resolving these differences now prepares the U.N. for down the line, should they ever decide to follow suit and begin working on a unilateral strategy.

It’s time to end the debate. We need to come together and accept responsibility for the damage we’ve done to the planet. Companies like NRGLab have already begun to assemble a team of brilliant engineers and scientists with a likeminded vision for the future. That vision includes clean electricity. A completely revamped energy infrastructure. Manageable carbon levels.

Keyakinanku pada NRGLab

Pada publikasi terakhir, saya menyebutkan sasaran saya untuk proyek bersama dengan NRGLab Pte Ltd. Saya berniat membuka pasar energi murah untuk setiap insan manusia di Bumi ini. Baik dikehendaki atau tidak, kita semua melalui kegiatan-kegiatan bisnis atau pembelian barang dan jasa, atau melalui cara-cara lain apapun, terlibat dalam proses produksi energi. Secara bersama-sama dengan pasar energi (energy market) yang sesungguhnya, sebuah pasar derivatif (saham, indeks, quote, pinjaman, dsb,) telah terbentuk. Banyak perantara keuangan mengaitkan kehidupan kita sehari-hari dengan derivatif-derivatif rumit mereka.

Saat ini, semua uang yang ada di dunia ada dalam energi dan perdagangan derivatif. Perdagangan, pertukaran, bank .... kita berada dalam sebuah perkawinan tak berimbang dengan “mafia energi” ini. Adakah yang tahu pangsa energi dan derivatif dalam GDP dunia? 50%? Salah, 90!

Gagasan saya adalah agar orang tidak lagi terpaksa memanfaatkan pelayanan dari mereka yang memonopoli energi dan perusahaan-perusahaan global. Sebaliknya, mereka dapat memproduksi energi mereka sendiri. NRGLab akan mengembalikan margin “energi” dan membayar untuk pelayanan kembali kepada masyarakat, misalnya, melalui obat-obatan, ilmu, proyek-proyek pendidikan, kegiatan-kegiatan amal, dsb. Penolakan atas “kebohongan” dan kebanggaan akan menjadi hal yang menguntungkan dalam “bisnis”. Begitu banyak hal terbangun atas saran-saran, kebohongan dan membohongi diri. Akibat krisis global, energi murah yang ada saat ini akan memungkinkan tumbuhnya pasar baru bagi hubungan bisnis langsung.

Negara mana yang akan menjadi lingkungan “energi” bebas pertama? Andalah yang memilih! Mungkin saja itu menjadi negara yang Anda cintai, tempat Anda dilahirkan!

Tujuan Saya untuk Proyek NRGLab

Saya datang ke Singapura atas undangan dari NRGLab Pte Ltd. Kerja sama saya dengan tim mereka terjalin sebelum saya kedatangan saya dalam waktu yang relatif singkat. Saya berhubungan dengan Ana Shell dan Zeev Drori dari Israel melalui Skype selama dua bulan untuk membicarakan tentang partisipasi saya dalam kegiatan-kegiatan perusahaan. Saya berkomunikasi dengan semua anggota perusahaan berkaitan dengan kemajuan proyek energi mereka. Bagi saya, proyek ini sangat logis; sekarang justru saya semakin berpikir positif. Saya tidak menanyakan tentang gaji maupun jabatan saya dalam perusahaan ini. Kami menyepakati bahwa saya terlibat dalam Dewan Riset sebagai seorang relawan.

Saat ini, di Singapura, saya membantu membentuk Dewan yang terdiri dari para ilmuwan dari berbagai perusahaan di seluruh dunia ini. Kontak saya terus berkembang pesat setiap minggunya karena aplikasi-aplikasi dari berbagai perwakilan perusahaan energi di Indonesia, Malaysia, Polandia, India, dll. Para pengusaha, tokoh politik, dan ‘orang gila’ mengirimi saya pesan. Target saya untuk musim semi ini adalah membentuk kelompok kerja (Pokja) dalam Dewan Riset sehingga pada pertemuan pertama di bulan Oktober nanti, kami akan mampu menentukan Strategi pabrikasi pembangkit listrik baru dan strukturnya. Pengembangan strategi bisnis baru ini sangat penting, mengingat perusahaan memutuskan untuk mengembangkan lini produknya bulan lalu. Perusahaan akan mengembangkan SH-box berkapasitas 5 dan 8 kW/h untuk pangsa pasar pribadi.

Saya menyarankan sebuah strategi sederhana dan nyata pada manajemen perusahaan, yang memungkinkan setiap pebisnis kebanyakan dari setiap negara dapat ikut serta dalam proyek ini. Untuk mencegah pemain global mencuri teknologi ini, lebih banyak hak cipta yang harus dijual kepada tangan-tangan swasta. Kita harus memberikan kesempatan pada setiap orang yang ingin menginvestasikan seribu dolar sekalipun. Toh Anda dapat membeli 20% SH-box berdaya 5 kW/h dengan uang seribu dolar. Lima orang bertetangga dapat bergabung dan membeli generator berdaya 1 kW/h untuk setiap keluarga. Dalam hal ini, setiap keluarga di Asia dapat menghemat hingga 15 sen per kW-dalam setahun. Angka ini berarti lebih dari seribu dolar dalam setahun! Logikanya jelas bagi semua orang – seseorang dengan sebuah SH-box dapat menerima energi senilai $1.500 per tahun dan menghemat $1.300 setiap tahunnya. Pendapat saya pun seharusnya sangat jelas, bahwa kita perlu memberi kesempatan pada setiap orang untuk menggunakan teknologi ini. Dan saya mempunyai argumentasi meyakinkan agar perusahaan membuka pasar energi murah bagi siapa pun, karena ini sangat manusiawi dan  berkeadilan sosial. NRGLab and global warming

Global warming remains a hot-button issue, despite data heavily favoring its existence. Scientists seem to surface from every nook and cranny to take a position on the issue. Either yes – post-industrial greenhouse gases have led to the rapid deterioration of our O-zone and warming of our planet. Or, no – our planet has, over millions of years, undergone a series of transitional periods from ice-ages to hot-summers, and global warming’s just another one of nature’s faces.

The Economist, a newspaper focusing on international politics and business news, has stirred the debate once again with the publishing of a recent article citing a flat-lining of Earth’s surface temperature over the last two decades, despite carbon emissions spiraling out of control. Conspiracy theorists and skeptics alike celebrated the article as a major victory in their war against common-sense science. But wait – not so fast.

Scientists like Virginie Guemas of the Catalan Institute of Climate Sciences in Barcelona have been quick to offer evidence refuting The Economist’s article. This past weekend, Guemas blamed the ocean for concealing some aspects of global warming. Roughly a third, in fact. 30% of warming has been absorbed by the deepest, darkest depths of our oceans. (Like wearing dark clothes on a hot day) The planet is still getting warmer. The oceans merely offer the temporary illusion that temperatures have flat-lined. By 2020, Guemas believes the heat will rise, and then the fury will really be felt. More vicious hurricanes. Taller tsunamis. Drought. Famine. The list of apocalyptic scenarios goes on, and on...

The Economist’s article centers on “climate sensitivity,” or variations in air temperature in relation to the change in radioactive forcing (RF), and the responsiveness of our ecosystem to this change. The article rebuffed the popular belief that greenhouse gases have more than doubled since the 18th century Industrial Revolution. Most scientists agree that carbon dioxide levels have devastated the atmosphere; the extent of that devastation, compared to the planet’s periods of natural climate change, has yet to proven though.

The debate rages on. Politicians, however, seem to have come to the consensus that pumping CO2 into the air we breathe is a bad thing. Three years ago, governments around the world united to seriouisly address climate change. They agreed to work towards lowering the rate of global warming by 2 degrees Celsius by the year 2015. Yet, even if this goal is reached, the damage we’ve done to the planet may be irreparable. The ice caps have all but melted. Super-storms have ravaged our Coastlines, coasting tax-payers BILLIONS in relief.

2 degrees might not be enough. So what will be? Scientists are working towards an answer. In the meantime, the scientists at NRGLab are developing a pragmatic solution to global warming. The SH-box, for example, has the potential to wean society off of fossil fuels, drastically reducing the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and thus the rate of warming. By harnessing the geothermal power of crystals, the SH-box is not only clean, but renewable, too.

So forget 2 degrees! Forget the global warming debate altogether! The fact remains – oil is in a limited supply. There’s only so much of it sitting beneath our feet. Once the wells have been tapped and the Earth sapped dry, where will we be? Will society be reduced to one big Hollywood movie – ruled by gangs of post-apocalyptic survivors?

SH-box: karena terkadang cuaca mendung, hujan dan tak berangin

Mereka yang menentang energi alternatif, yaitu perusahaan-perusahaan minyak dan perusahaan lain yang kini paling rentan dirugikan secara finansial, dengan cepat menunjuk beberapa kelemahan dari opsi-opsi yang ada saat ini.  Mobil listrik tidak memiliki jangkauan yang cukup jauh. Panel solar tidak berguna saat cuaca buruk. Kincir angin tidak praktis dan merusak pemandangan, serta hanya efektif saat cuaca buruk.   Tentu saja ada pendapat bertentangan tentang sikap apa yang sebaiknya diambil oleh dunia, bahkan di antara para pemerhati lingkungan sekalipun. Tenaga matahari.  Tenaga angin. Tenaga nuklir. Tenaga hidrogen. Daftarnya masih bertambah, terus, dan terus, dan terus...

Namun, setiap poin yang diajukan mereka yang skeptis tersebut benar adanya. Panel solar sangat terbatas karena ketergantungannya pada sel-sel fotovoltaik.  Angin tidak menghasilkan cukup energi untuk memenuhi permintaan energi  yang luar biasa tinggi.  Nuklir berbahaya (Baca: Japanese meltdown). Hidrogen terlalu mahal. Lalu, apakah kita menyerah saja dan tetap bertahan dengan infrastruktur yang masanya pasti akan habis, menunggu sampai minyak bumi kering, langit gelap, air tercemar, dan bumi perlahan mati?

Di NRGLab, jawaban tegasnya adalah, "Tidak sama sekali!" Berbasis di luar Singapura, NRGLab telah mengembangkan teknologi poli-kristalin untuk menghasilkan listrik berbiaya rendah dari panas bumi. Generator mandiri (self-contained) yang disebut SH-Box menghasilkan listrik dengan biaya sekecil $0,03 per kW, dan tanpa emisi karbon sama sekali! Selain itu, SH-box mampu bekerja selama sepuluh tahun lebih. Masa hidupnya akan lebih lama dari ponsel atau mobil Anda,  dari benda-benda yang dibuat dalam dunia serba pakai-buang ini. Tapi tidak demikian  dengan SH-box. Bahkan SH-box tidak perlu dipasang di atap rumah Anda.  SH-box bisa dipasang di mana saja dan dipadukan dengan jaringan listrik apapun yang ada.
